The Auburn electorate covers around 32 square kilometres in the heart of western Sydney, taking in the suburbs of Auburn, Lidcombe, Berala, Regents Park, Chester Hill, Sefton, Birrong, Potts Hill and Yagoona.
The land on which Auburn stands is the traditional home of the Wangal people of the Eora Nation, whose connection to Country continues to this day. European settlement began in the late 1790s when early land grants were made along the track between Sydney and Parramatta. The Borough of Auburn was proclaimed in 1892, and by the early 20th century the area had become a major hub for railways, manufacturing, and industry.
Today, Auburn is one of the most culturally diverse areas, home to people from more than 120 different countries. Many local families trace their heritage to China, Nepal, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Lebanon, and Turkey, with more than 90 languages spoken across the district. Auburn’s diversity is celebrated through its food, festivals, places of worship, and community organisations- all of which contribute to a unique and inclusive local character.
